Be a Chilean Sea Ba(da)ss: Health Benefits

Omigah... Omega's.

Do you wanna be a Chilean Sea Badass? I thought so. Did you know that despite it’s buttery, melt-in-your-mouth meatiness, that Chilean Sea Bass is also uber healthy, and offers a plentiful catch (see what I did there?) of “omega 3, vitamins A, D, B6, B12 and calcium (if you eat the bones)”, according to this article by Livestrong.com.

“Why in the flying fish is everyone obsessed with Omega’s, and why do I need them?”, you might ask. Great f***ing question.

(f***ing in this context is to be read as “fishing”.)

Reposted below from Omega3.org is a small summary of the rad health benefits your body gets from a healthy dose of Omega’s. They can help in:

  • Lowering blood pressure levels
  • Preventing allergies
  • Reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases
  • Promoting healing from illness or injury
  • Balancing blood sugar levels
  • Combating depression
  • Preventing certain cancers

And if that isn’t enough to make you wanna ingest some freshly caught fishies from Chile, then just stare at the photo above of the delicioso dinner that I had last night, compliments of Executive Chef Giuseppe Fanelii of Tre Dici.

Other great fish sources of Omega 3 include:
• sardines (a personal “ew” from me…but if you can stomach these salty little guys then more power to ya!)
• salmon
• albacore tuna
• mussels
• rainbow trout

Prefer the vegetarian/vegan route? No problem! (And on a side note a huge congratulations to your lifestyle btw. Not only are you reducing your carbon footprint drastically by skipping meat but I think you herbivores are generally awesome people and epically healthy, and will out live all of us carnivores.). Plant-based sources of Omega 3 come from flaxseed and walnuts. Just be sure to aim for ground flaxseed, as our bodies most efficiently absorb it in this form.

So in summary, cast that net and catch some Omega’s, in the most Chilean Badass or Flaxtastic form.
